The impact of fibromyalgia reduced after the dance programs in the patients. Chronic pain does not only effect your overall health status but also impact on your quality of life. It causes disability at work, generating periods of absence from work and early retirement. The World Health Organization recognizes chronic pain as a public problem around the world. Fibromyalgia is one of the most common chronic pain diseases. It is characterized by widespread pain and stiffness, which persists for at least three months along with other associated symptoms such as sleep disturbance, poor physical fitness, cognitive impairment or anxiety, and depression.
Physical activity is a relevant therapy for the prevention of different chronic pain conditions. It will increase mental health and physical functions of people with chronic pain. Physical exercise is the non-medicinal therapy with the highest level of evidence to reduce fibromyalgia symptoms .Among physical exercise ,dance has emerged as a relevant therapy to improve quality of life. The artistic and creative concept of dance is called as “creative arts therapies”. The American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) defines Dance Movement Therapy as the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive, and physical integration of the participant.
The aim of this study was to systematically review the effectiveness of dance-based programs in patients with fibromyalgia. The dances which are more effective and included in this study are Biodance, on both land and aquatic, Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), and Belly Dance. The impact of fibromyalgia was reduced significantly. The dance (1-2 times a week and 60-12- min per session) significantly reduces the level of pain, improves the quality of life with physical function, reduces anxiety, depression, and the impact of the disease.
